FAQs

Why do you use only timber grown in Great Britain?

We do not believe it is necessary to import timber to make wooden gifts. There is ample timber available from trees grown in Great Britain. There are around 50 native and naturalised species of trees most of which give very beautiful timber which is suitable for wooden gifts. We wish to make these timbers more widely available and at the same time reduce the carbon footprint.

How do I pay for my gift?

We accept payment by most major credit and debit cards and by PayPal. You can pay by cheque made payable to Indigenous Tree Company Ltd. Payment must be made before we start making your gift and if by cheque it must be cleared before we start to make the gift.

How long will it take to make and deliver my gift?

We only make bespoke gifts and do not carry stock items. Our current time to make a gift is 14 working days from order. If for any unforeseen reason, it is going to take longer you will be advised at time of purchase. If you require your gift earlier than 14 days please contact us by email at linda@indigenoustree.com or on 07977 139289 between 9.00am and 5.00pm and we will discuss your requirements.

My gift seems a different colour to the photograph on your web page?

The colour and grain will differ in every piece of wood. It is this which makes your gift unique.

What if I make a mistake in the personalised engraving

We do everything we can to prevent this occurring. When you place your order, we will contact you to confirm the wording for the engraving and this should prevent mistakes. In the unlikely event of a mistake in the engraving please contact us immediately so that the problem can be resolved.

I understand wood moves; will this be a problem?

Whilst all our wood is carefully dried before any gift is made movement can still occur as wood will take up moisture from the environment in which it is placed. This should not be a problem as we make the gift considering likely movement.

How do I care for my cutting board?

Your cutting board is made from kiln dried wood but wood will take up moisture from the environment in which it is placed. This means your board will be affected by humidity and can expand and contract.  Warping or cracks due to moisture absorption is not treated as a defect. This is perfectly normal and all woods do this. There are a number of steps you can take to ensure your board continues to look good and provides many years of pleasure: -

  • Store the board on a flat service – not on its edge.
  • Do not immerse the board in water or put in the dishwasher.
  • Do not place the board on or very near hot areas such as a radiator or the cooker.
  • Clean the board with warm soapy water followed by clean water and then wipe dry.
  • We treat all our boards with OSMO TopOil which protects the wood and is food safe. We recommend you periodically oil with OSMO TopOil. This is widely available on the Internet.
